Owens Corning

Blackstone Roofing is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor. Owens Corning has the highest brand recognition in the Residential Roofing Industry, a $5billion market capitalization, and though the company was formed via partnership in 1935, its roots date all the way back to 1851. Suffice it to say, Owens Corning and your warranty will live on for the foreseeable future.

We primarily recommend and use Owens Corning products because of their proven track record, their top quality materials, and their patented technologies such as the Owens Corning SureNail strip.

We use all Owens Corning recommended components and accessories as part of their Total Protection Roofing System. Other contractor may substitute cheaper products from other manufacturers or just the absolute incorrect products altogether. Here is where the problem lies when contractors do that: the manufacturers warranty will not apply to any of those products from other manufacturers (such as a different synthetic felt or ice&water shield). Worse yet, an all too common practice is to take a 3 Tab shingle, cut the tabs off, and use that as the Hip and Ridge Cap shingle. The issue with this is that proper Hip and Ridge material shingles have a 50% overlap to increase the durability of the shingles, while 3 Tab shingles have almost no overlap. This cheap-out will take your Limited-Lifetime warranty down to 2-years and your wind resistance rating down from 130 mph to 60 mph.

When you get Owens Corning Laminate Architectural shingles and all of the accompanying Owens Corning accessories, every piece of your roof is covered under the Limited-Lifetime Warranty, and you know that the roofing company hasn’t cut any unnecessary corners.

TruDefinition® Duration® line of Shingles

For every insurance job, we upgrade our customers to Owens Corning’s Duration line of shingles. These are their top of the line, Laminate Architectural shingles and they have a massive technological advantage over all of its competitors: the SureNail Strip.

This woven fabric strip is inserted onto the shingle in the manufacturing process with an adhesive through high heat and pressure and serves three purposes not found anywhere else in the industry. First, is serves as a target for our crews to install the nails. They get going pretty quick with the pneumatic nail guns and this strip reduces the number of misses to almost zero. This strip gives the best visual target as well as the largest (3/4″) common bond zone where the nail can go through 3 layers of shingles. Next, this woven fabric strip resists wind from tearing the shingly by pulling it up and pulling the nail through the shingles. Finally, this woven fabric is where the tar strip on the backside of the shingle about it seals down onto. This gives a much greater resistance to wind lifting your shingles than typical tar strips that seal down onto the granules of the shingle. This is a massive technological advancement that isn’t found anywhere else in the Asphalt Roofing Industry.

We at Blackstone Roofing are complete believers in this technology and believe it gives our customers a better product AND install every time we use it. For more information, watch the video, click on the picture, or give us a call.

StreakGuard Algae Resistance Protection

Owens Corning’s Duration line of shingles come with a 10 year warranty against staining. This is due to their StreakGuard technology. Owens Corning blends copper-lined granules into their colorful ceramic-coated granules in order to protect against the all too common black algae staining you would typically see on the North-facing slope of some roofs.

DeckSeal™ Roofing System

The Owens Corning DeckSeal system is an SBS Modified Bitumen self-sealing roll roofing product. It is used on low-slope residential roofing pitches between .25/12 and 2/12. We use this system with the more water resistant 3-ply method. This self sealing mat allows installation without the dangerous torch-down method that causes many fires every year. Many contractors ignore the code that requires this type of roofing system and will just shingle these low slope pitches. This will lead to a loss of warranty and water ingress in the future.
